Concept slug: chochmah First introduced: Op. 101 Last advanced: Op. 124 Appearance count: 6 chapters

What this concept is

Chochmah (חכמה, "Wisdom") is the second Sefirah, structurally the upper-masculine — the source of the whole revelation that Binah then articulates in detail. As an operational father, Chochmah becomes Abba in the Partzuf-language. The Sefirah Chochmah and the Partzuf Abba operate at different levels of the same fundamental contribution: wholeness as the ground of subsequent articulation.

How the concept develops

Chochmah is introduced at Op. 5–6 (one of the Sefirot — attribute of the Will). Op. 15 (Keter is bound up with Eyn Sof; from Chochmah onwards it is a mitzvah to investigate — Chochmah as the threshold of investigable cosmogony; the forbidden vs. permitted discipline divides at this Sefirah).

Op. 17 (Sefer Yetzirah 1:3 — Chochmah as foundation of governance — the appropriate levels of Kindness, Judgment, and Mercy are formed of the upper Mochin including Chochmah). Op. 22 (every Sefirah contains 10 Sefirot — Chochmah's fractal structure runs through every later operational level).

From Op. 101 onward, Chochmah operates anatomically in every Partzuf's Head: the Head includes Keter and the Mental Powers within it, of which Chochmah is the first. Op. 102 (Atik Yomin shines in the Head of A"A through the Seven Repairs — Chochmah's place in the Head is one of those repairs).

Op. 110 (Yesod of Atik ends in Tiferet of A"A in chain; Yesod of A"A as clothed — the chain runs through Chochmah). Op. 112 (Abba — the Partzuf-instance of Chochmah — reveals the Mental Powers as a whole; Imma reveals them in detail). Op. 114 (the path of influence reaches Z"N through both Abba and Imma — Chochmah's whole-revelation is the operational source).

Op. 124 (Daat as the offspring of Chochmah-Binah engrafting via Abba and Imma) is the operational completion of the Chochmah arc: the upper-masculine wisdom, when joined with Binah's articulation, produces the bridging Mochin that propagates governance through the body of Zeir Anpin (Z"A).

The Concealed-Wisdom of A"A descends through Abba into Z"A (Op. 111) — Chochmah's operational form at full strength.

Cross-arc connections

Chochmah travels closely with Binah (the structural pair — whole and detail), Abba (the Partzuf-instance), Daat (the offspring of engrafting), Keter (the upstream root, bound up with Eyn Sof per Op. 15), and Mochin (one of the three Mental Powers).

What the reader should hold

Chochmah is the wholeness-revealing father of cosmic governance. The threshold from Chochmah onwards it is a mitzvah to investigate (Op. 15) is what licenses the entire downstream investigation of cosmic structures throughout Klach. Without Chochmah's whole-revelation, Binah has nothing to articulate; with Chochmah, the cosmic government acquires its comprehensive scope.
