The fall and breaking of the vessels — to produce evil.

TL;DR

The breaking happened: the lights overflowed the vessel's capacity at the end-point; the vessel broke; 288 sparks fell into the lower realms, producing the realm of evil.

Why this chapter exists

Op. 46 is THE BREAKING chapter. Op. 36–45 have built up to it; Op. 47 onward will describe the response. Klach distinguishes the fall from the breaking, names the 288 sparks count, and forecasts the new MaH* (gematria 45) that will arrive to begin the repair. The chapter is the structural climax of the Nekudim unit.

The argument

The distinction between fall and breaking is doctrinally important. The fall is what happens to the light: it descends, drops, scatters from where it was supposed to be. The breaking is what happens to the vessel: it cracks, splits, can no longer contain. The two are different events that occur together; they have different operational consequences.

The vessel's breaking is what happens at the cosmogonic level — the pipes-under-construction analogy is useful here. Imagine a complex plumbing system being built: pipes laid in sequence, each meant to handle a particular flow. The lights breaking through are too strong for the joints at the end of the system; the joints fail; the pipes break. The fall is what the broken pipes' contents do: they spill into the surroundings, scattered.

The 288 sparks count is doctrinally precise. 288 = 4 × 72: each of the four expansions of the Four-Letter Name contributes 72 sparks. The number is the operational arithmetic of the broken-and-falling lights; the rest of the book's 288 sparks unit (Op. 54–58) operationalises the repair as the gradual recovery of these sparks.

The biblical anchor remains Psalms 5:5: evil will not dwell with You. The broken sparks fall into the husks (kelipot, the operational matter of the Other Side). Evil now has its operational location — not in Atzilut, but in the broken structures that are no longer functioning. The repair will be the gradual recovery of the sparks from the husks.

The forecast at the end: new MaH will arrive to complete what the broken vessels could not. This is the operational prelude to Op. 54.
