TL;DR

This chapter establishes the two-generators principle for every function and effect: a male generator (MaH-side, Kindness, white) + a female generator (BaN-side, Judgment, red). Two parts: (Part 1) Government on Kindness-and-Justice foundation (root of good + root of evil) → for every function, two generators required (molidim). Each function (pe'ulah) contains both parts. Includes both governing-functions AND the actual creations themselves (which emerge from the same root as the functions that govern them). Of the two: one male from MaH-side, one female from BaN-side. Material itself contains female-related part = red-colored component in body. Male side governs overall form; female side governs details of the design (Ramban on Leviticus 12:1). Two aspects of male-female: (1) preparations (male = overall generality; female = particulars; Op. 64 forecast); (2) parts of the actual effect (male = white = Kindness; female = red = Judgment). For now: principle of male-female in MaH-BaN interaction.

This is the unit's fifth chapter — Op. 62 said every level needs both MaH and BaN; Op. 63 specifies the operational mechanism of how both contribute to every effect: the two-generators principle rooted in male-female coupling. The effect comes about only through the operation of the two factors of male and female (1) in the aspect of the preparations (the male provides the overall generality while the female divides it into particulars) and also (2) in the aspect of the parts of the actual effect itself. (Some of the characteristics of the resultant effect derive from the side of the male – Kindness – while some of its characteristics derive from the female – Judgment.) Accordingly they divide up in such a way that the male draws down the white (=Kindness) and the female the red (=Judgment). The first aspect, that of the preparations, whereby the male sends a general influence while the female delineates the details, will be explained below, with the help of Heaven (Opening 64). At this point it will suffice if we discern the principle of male and female in the interaction of MaH and BaN, for both are required as a generating cause, the one contributing one part – i.e. MaH – and the other a different part – i.e. BaN. Synthesis

Op. 63 establishes the two-generators principle for every function and effect in the developmental chain. After Op. 62 said every level needs both MaH and BaN, Op. 63 specifies how both contribute: through male-female coupling. Two parts. Part 1: the government, founded on Kindness and Justice (root of good + root of evil) for the sake of reward and punishment and free will, requires every function to emerge with the consensus of two sidesone good rules and one evil agrees, or vice versa; therefore every pe'ulah (act/function) contains a part of both. This includes both governing-functions and the actual creations themselves (since they emerge from the same root). Each light has two generators — Kindness-side + Judgment-side — molidim (producers). Part 2: the developmental sequence (hishtalshelut) operates by each light being emanated from another light per the principle of gradation. The Source of every light is the Supreme Will; each light is drawn forth from the Source by two coupled lights — the coupling lights do not bring the light into existence; they draw it forth from the Supreme Source. The mechanism is hitchadshut hamochin (renewal of mental states) + zivug (coupling). The human mind-thought analogy is the operative analogy: thought B comes in the wake of thought A's excitement, although thought B is not actually caused by thought Athe eternal Will continually creates everything. The soul's whole functioning is zivug. Partzuf receives a precise definition: the way in which the causal agent must stand in order to be fit to draw forth and reveal its effect. Mechanism: roots begin in the mind/brain of each of the powers and continue down by way of the organs of procreation — Yesod in each case. Two causal factors per level: (a) overall root; (b) specific preparations and repairs for that generality. Below: male-female as found in this world. The Talmud's "woman emits seed of a red color" (Niddah 31a) grounds Ramchal's claim that both parents — and both MaH and BaN — actually contribute to each effect. Male side: governs the overall form of the Likeness of Man; female side: governs the details of the design (Ramban on Leviticus 12:1). The chapter closes by distinguishing two aspects of male-female that both apply: (1) preparations — male = overall generality, female = particulars (Op. 64 will detail this); (2) parts of the actual effect — male's characteristics = Kindness (white), female's = Judgment (red). Both required as generating cause; one provides MaH-part, one provides BaN-part; the resultant effect is joined together in the same way.
