The connection of the Line with the Residue — the soul and the body — becomes complete only after the emergence of evil and its return to good.
The Line cannot fully join the Residue at the outset of Nekudim. The vessel must complete its three-stage mission — produce evil, allow evil to rule, be purified — before the union can complete. The model is soul-and-body at the resurrection.
Op. 41 explains a structural feature that would otherwise be incomprehensible. Why does the cosmic process not just go Tzimtzum → Kav illuminating Reshimu → integrated cosmos? Why is there a long, painful middle phase? Klach's answer is the resurrection-archetype: the Line cannot fully join the Residue until the Residue has completed its mission.
The analogy is human. A soul cannot join a body in perfect union until after the body has worked through Adam's sin (which, in the rabbinic tradition, requires the body's death and its resurrection). The body's purification is the precondition for the soul's full union with it. Until then, the union is partial — the soul present but not fully joined.
The same is true at the cosmic scale. The Residue (the receptive matrix) must complete a three-stage mission: (1) produce evil — the realm of deficiency that makes service possible; (2) allow evil to rule for the duration of the cycle — the actual conditions under which service is performed; (3) be purified of evil — the operational completion that comes through the long repair. Until this mission is complete, the Line cannot fully join the Residue. The light enters but does not yet consummate the union.
This is the deepest structural reason for the cycle's middle phase. It is not an accident or a delay; it is the structural prerequisite for the eventual full union of Line and Residue. The bestowal of Op. 3 — the ultimate good given to creatures who have earned it — is operationally the moment the Line fully joins the Residue, after the Residue has completed its three-stage mission.
Op. 49 will name the cosmic-temporal arc explicitly — six millennia as one cycle; perfection requires deficiency; the Beriyah, Yetzirah, Asiyah (BYA) → Atzilut, Beriyah, Yetzirah, Asiyah (ABYA) → BYA arc. Op. 138 will name the operational completion in the eight-stage Coupling order. The Line-Residue identification is sharpened at Op. 64: MaH (gematria 45) = Line, BaN (gematria 52) = Residue*.
