Section: Building of Zeir Anpin in Pregnancy, Suckling and Maturity (Openings 119–123)

TL;DR

Op. 119 opens the new unit on the building of Zeir Anpin (Op. 119–123) with the structural fact that controls everything else in it: Z"A and Nukva grow to maturity together. They are two separate Partzufim with their own tikkunim — Z"A's are successively higher levels of Mental Powers; Nukva's are separation (nesirah, lit. sawing) and the face-to-face / back-to-back states — but throughout Z"A's entire building, Nukva is with him. The chapter then names the three stages that give the unit its title. (i) Pregnancy (ibur) — Z"A is three Sefirot (Netzach-Hod-Yesod) with Nukva as a fourth over Yesod. (ii) Suckling (yenikah) — Z"A's Chesed-Gevurah-Tiferet are revealed, with Nukva attached to the back parts of Tiferet. (iii) Maturity (gadlut) — Z"A's Mochin (Chochmah-Binah-Daat) are revealed, Malchut ascends and becomes rooted in Daat. After this Nukva has further building in her own right from Z"A's NHY (her main building), but the together-attachment during the three ascent-stages is for Z"A's completionthe male is never complete without his female. Z"A is the head, Nukva is the end; every repair Z"A receives is complete only through Nukva; all of Z"A's influences flow to the lower creations through Nukva. Part 2 (¶8–9) gives the historical significance: this together-growth is the immediate gain of the repair after the breakage. The chapter's most consequential historical claim is in ¶8: the lack of connection between Z"A and Nukva caused the breakage; once the connection was rectified, all the other repairs could come about little by little. ¶9 closes by stating that the first work of the repair — already in Z"A's pregnancy — was to bring them together.

Chapter map

This is the first chapter of a new section unit (Building of Zeir Anpin in Pregnancy, Suckling and Maturity, Op. 119–123). The previous unit (Op. 115–118) gave Z"N's general principles — foundational status, upper-internal structure, engrafting's outputs, Leah's two aspects. The new unit turns from what Z"N is to how Z"N is built — the construction process, stage by stage. Op. 119 opens this construction-discussion with the structural fact that all five chapters of the unit will assume.

What this chapter is doing — the together-growth claim and its three stages

The together-growth claim. The prior unit kept Z"A and Nukva conceptually distinct — each its own Partzuf, each with its own tikkunim. Op. 119 ¶5 preserves the distinctness — Z"A and Nukva are two separate Partzufim each with their own unique arrangements — and yet adds one common aspect: throughout Z"A's entire building, Nukva is with him. The two-Partzuf separateness and the together-growth are both true; the chapter's pedagogical move is to name and explain this seeming tension.

The three stages — pregnancy, suckling, maturity. ¶6 names the three stages that give the unit its name. Pregnancy (ibur, עיבור) — Z"A is only three Sefirot (Netzach-Hod-Yesod), with Nukva as a fourth attached to Z"A's Yesod. Suckling (yenikah, יניקה) — Z"A's Chesed-Gevurah-Tiferet are revealed; now Z"A has six Sefirot (CGT-NHY); Nukva is now attached to the back parts of Tiferet. Maturity (gadlut, גדלות) — Z"A's Mochin (Chochmah-Binah-Daat, the form of A"&I's grafting per Op. 116 ¶6) are revealed; Nukva (= Malchut) ascends and becomes rooted in Daat. The three stages are graduated: at each stage, more of Z"A is operationally present, and Nukva attaches at a different anatomical point corresponding to the stage's structural extent.

Nukva's main building is afterwards, from Z"A's NHY. ¶6 closes with an important caveat. After the maturity-stage, Nukva has further building in her own right from Z"A's NHY — this is her main building. The during-the-stages attachment is not her main building; it is the for-Z"A-completion attachment. So Nukva has two construction-modes: (a) attached to Z"A through pregnancy/suckling/maturity (for Z"A's completion); (b) her own main building from Z"A's NHY afterwards. The unit's chapters (Op. 119–123) work mode (a); a later unit will work mode (b).

The completion-doctrine: head and end. ¶7 grounds the together-growth in a general male/female polarity-claim: the male aspect is never complete without his female. Z"A is the head, Nukva is the endZ"A's influence ends at Nukva; every repair received by Z"A is complete only through Nukva; all of Z"A's influences flow to the lower creations through Nukva. Without Nukva, Z"A's repair has no operational outlet; without Nukva, the governance (Op. 115 ¶6) cannot reach the world. So the together-growth is operationally necessary for the cycle to succeed.

Part 2: the connection was the immediate gain of the repair. ¶8 places the together-growth historically. Even during Z"A's immaturity, his strength is greater than during the breakagebecause now, in the repair, an immediate connection was formed between Z"A and Nukva. This is the chapter's most consequential historical claim: the lack of connection caused the breakage; because the connection was missing, the other repairs were absent, which led to the breakage. The breakage is therefore not an arbitrary fact; it is the operational consequence of Z"N-disconnection. Once the connection was rectified, a place was prepared for all the other repairs to come about little by little. The repair has a foundational order: connection first, then everything else.

The first work was to bring them together. ¶9 closes the chapter by naming the order of the repair work: the first work carried out — already in the pregnancy — was to bring them together. The unit's first stage (pregnancy) is not primarily about Z"A's three Sefirot; it is about bringing Z"A and Nukva together so that they will always continue going together. The three-stage building is therefore grounded in the connection from the very first stage.

The diagrams

One diagram captures the chapter's three-stage construction picture: the graduated revelation of Z"A's Sefirot across pregnancy, suckling, maturity, with Nukva's attaching point tracking Z"A's growing structure.

Diagram 1 — The three stages of Z"A's building, with Nukva attaching

Read left to right. Pregnancy: Z"A is NHY only; Nukva is the fourth above Yesod. Suckling: Z"A's CGT are revealed; Nukva is attached to the back parts of Tiferet. Maturity: Z"A's CHaBaD are revealed; Malchut ascends into Daat. The chapter's central claim — they grow together — is visualized as Nukva's continuous attachment across all three stages.

Paragraph 1 — Italic gloss / chapter title

Source — Hebrew (קל"ח פתחי חכמה):

ז"א נשלם ע"י נוק' בכל מצביו:

Source — English (Greenbaum):

> Start of the repair of the breakage: Zeir Anpin and Nukva grow to maturity together. Plain English:

The italic gloss compresses the chapter's whole claim. Start of the repair of the breakage — the chapter is historically situated: this is what first happened in the repair after the breakage of the vessels (Op. 50–51). Z"A and Nukva grow to maturity together — the structural claim that controls the rest of the unit. The Hebrew chapter heading ז"א נשלם ע"י נוק' בכל מצביו (Z"A is completed through Nukva in all his states) names the completion-doctrine directly. The unit-title — בנין ז"א בעי"מ (Building of Z"A in Ibur-Yenikah-Mochin, i.e., pregnancy-suckling-Mochin) — names the unit's three stages.

What this paragraph does. Italic gloss. Names the chapter's two central claims (together-growth + historical-start-of-the-repair) and the unit's three stages.

Paragraph 2 — The proposition

Source — Hebrew (קל"ח פתחי חכמה):

זו"ן מתגדלים ביחד, כי תמיד אין שלמות הזכר אלא בנוקבא שלו. וזה מה שהרויח מיד אחר תיקון השבירה - להיות זו"ן הולכים ביחד תמיד:

Source — English (Greenbaum):

> Zeir Anpin and Nukva grow to maturity together, for the male aspect is never complete without his female. The immediate gain after the repair of the breakage was that Zeir and Nukva always go together. Plain English:

Three claims compressed into one proposition. (i) Together-growth. Z"A and Nukva grow to maturity together. (ii) Completion-doctrine. For the male aspect is never complete without his female. The reason for the together-growth is operational completion. (iii) Historical-grounding. The immediate gain after the repair of the breakage was that Z"A and Nukva always go together. The together-growth is the gain of the post-breakage repair. The exposition (¶5–9) will unfold each.

What this paragraph does. States the chapter's whole proposition. The reader leaves with the three structural claims in mind.

Paragraph 3 — Framing: from function to construction

Source — Hebrew (קל"ח פתחי חכמה):

עכשיו שביארנו זו"ן לפי ענינם, צריך לבאר סדר הבנותם:

Source — English (Greenbaum):

> Having discussed the overall function of Zeir and Nukva we must now explain the process of their construction. Plain English:

The chapter's place. Having discussed the overall function of Z"A and Nukva — the just-completed Op. 115–118 unit — we must now explain the process of their construction. The pivot is from function (what Z"N is and does) to construction (how Z"N is built). The new unit (Op. 119–123) is the construction-discussion.

What this paragraph does. Frames the chapter (and the unit) as the construction-process pivot from the prior unit's function-analysis.

Klach's standard parts-marker. Part 1: the together-growth claim — to be unfolded in ¶5–7. Part 2: the historical-grounding claim — to be unfolded in ¶8–9.

What this paragraph does. Structural marker. Names the two parts.

Paragraph 5 — Part 1 phrase 1: two separate Partzufim, but together throughout the building

Source — English (Greenbaum):

> Part 1: Zeir Anpin and Nukva grow to maturity together… Zeir Anpin and Nukva are two separate Partzufim each with their own unique arrangements in accordance with their respective roles. (The unique repairs of Zeir Anpin are successively higher levels of Mental Powers, while those of the Nukva – separation, נסירה, nesirah, lit. "sawing" and the various states of face-to-face, back-to-back etc. – prepare her for coupling.) Nevertheless, one common aspect is that throughout the entire time of the building of Zeir Anpin, Nukva is with him. Plain English:

Three precisions. (i) Two separate Partzufim with their own tikkunim. Z"A and Nukva are two separate Partzufim each with their own unique arrangements in accordance with their respective roles. The Op. 115–118 unit's framing is preserved — Z"N are two distinct Partzufim, each with its own tikkunim (operational arrangements). (ii) Their respective tikkunim. The unique repairs of Z"A are successively higher levels of Mental Powers, while those of the Nukva — separation (nesirah, נסירה, lit. "sawing") and the various states of face-to-face, back-to-back etc. — prepare her for coupling. Z"A's tikkunim: the graduated revelation of higher Mochin levels (the three stages of ¶6 are precisely this). Nukva's tikkunim: nesirah (the sawing — the separation of Nukva from Z"A's back, where she begins as part of him before becoming her own Partzuf), the face-to-face / panim be-panim state (when Nukva turns to face Z"A for coupling), and the back-to-back / achor be-achor state (when she does not). Both of Nukva's tikkunim prepare her for coupling. (iii) The common aspect. Nevertheless, one common aspect is that throughout the entire time of the building of Z"A, Nukva is with him. The two-Partzuf separateness and the together-growth are both true.

What this paragraph does. Names Z"A's and Nukva's respective tikkunim and asserts the together aspect alongside the separateness. The reader leaves with the two-Partzuf framing preserved and the together-growth claim added.

Paragraph 6 — The three stages: pregnancy, suckling, maturity

Source — English (Greenbaum):

> Thus during the Pregnancy, Zeir Anpin is three Sefirot – Netzach-Hod-Yesod – with Nukva as the fourth over the Yesod. During Suckling, Chessed-Gevurah-Tiferet are revealed – with Nukva attached to the back parts of Tiferet. In maturity, when Chochmah-Binah-Daat of Zeir Anpin are revealed, Malchut ascends and becomes rooted in Daat. It is true that afterwards Nukva must undergo further building in her own right from Zeir Anpin's Netzach-Hod-Yesod, this being the main building of the Nukva. But the attachment of Nukva to Zeir Anpin in all his ascents is for the completion and perfection of Zeir Anpin – that is to say that the two of them will always be together. Plain English:

Five precisions. (i) Pregnancy. During the Pregnancy (ibur, עיבור), Z"A is three Sefirot — Netzach-Hod-Yesod — with Nukva as the fourth over the Yesod. In ibur, Z"A is minimal — only the lowest three Sefirot of his eventual structure. Nukva is the fourth — attached over (above) Z"A's Yesod. (ii) Suckling. During Suckling (yenikah, יניקה), Chesed-Gevurah-Tiferet are revealed — with Nukva attached to the back parts of Tiferet. Z"A now has six Sefirot (CGT-NHY, the Vav Ketzavot of Op. 116 ¶5). Nukva attaches higher — at the back parts of Tiferet, the central Sefirah of the body. (iii) Maturity. In maturity (gadlut, גדלות), when Chochmah-Binah-Daat of Z"A are revealed, Malchut ascends and becomes rooted in Daat. The Mochin (CHaBaD, A"&I's grafting per Op. 116 ¶6) are revealed; Z"A is now complete. Nukva (= Malchut, the operational Sefirah, Op. 118 ¶5) ascends and becomes rooted in Daat (the middle Mochin Sefirah). (iv) Nukva's main building is afterwards. It is true that afterwards Nukva must undergo further building in her own right from Z"A's Netzach-Hod-Yesod, this being the main building of the Nukva. After the maturity-attaching, Nukva has her own construction-process from Z"A's NHYthis is her main building. The unit's during-the-stages attaching is not her main building. (v) The reason: for Z"A's completion. But the attachment of Nukva to Z"A in all his ascents is for the completion and perfection of Z"A — that is to say that the two of them will always be together. The together-growth is teleologically for Z"A's completion; the together-claim is restated as the goal.

What this paragraph does. Names the three stages of Z"A's building and Nukva's attaching point at each stage. Distinguishes the during-the-stages attaching (for Z"A's completion) from Nukva's main building (afterwards, from Z"A's NHY).

Paragraph 7 — Part 1 phrase 2: head and end — male incomplete without female

Source — English (Greenbaum):

> …for the male aspect is never complete without his female. Nukva is found with Zeir Anpin in this way only in order to complete his functions, for Zeir Anpin is the head and Nukva is the end. Thus every repair received by Zeir Anpin is complete only through Nukva – because all the influences of Zeir Anpin are directed to the lower creations and channeled through Nukva. Plain English:

Four precisions. (i) Nukva completes Z"A's functions. Nukva is found with Z"A in this way only in order to complete his functions. The together-growth is for completion. (ii) Z"A is head, Nukva is end. Z"A is the head and Nukva is the end. The head/end (rosh/sof) polarity. Z"A is the operational origin; Nukva is the operational terminus. Without the terminus, the origin's flow has no destination. (iii) Repairs are complete only through Nukva. Every repair received by Z"A is complete only through Nukva. When Z"A receives a tikkun, the tikkun is not yet operational until it passes through Nukva. (iv) Influences flow to the lower creations through Nukva. Because all the influences of Z"A are directed to the lower creations and channeled through Nukva. This is the operational reason for the head/end logic: Z"A's influence has nowhere to go except through Nukva to the lower creations.

What this paragraph does. Grounds the together-growth in the completion-doctrine and the head/end polarity. The reader leaves with the operational reason for the together-attachment: Nukva is the channel by which Z"A's influence reaches the world below.

Paragraph 8 — Part 2 phrase 1: the immediate gain — connection prevents the breakage's recurrence

Source — English (Greenbaum):

> Part 2: The immediate gain after the repair of the breakage… Even during the time of Zeir Anpin's immaturity, his strength is greater than during the time of the breakage. For now, in the repair, an immediate connection was formed between Zeir Anpin and Nukva. This is the essence of what was missing during the time of the breakage. It was because of the lack of connection that the other repairs were absent, which is what led to the breakage. Once this was rectified, a place was prepared for all the other repairs to come about little by little. Plain English:

Five precisions. (i) Even in immaturity, Z"A is stronger than at the breakage. Even during the time of Z"A's immaturity, his strength is greater than during the time of the breakage. The post-repair katnut is operationally stronger than the pre-repair Z"A. (ii) The reason: an immediate connection was formed. For now, in the repair, an immediate connection was formed between Z"A and Nukva. The connection (kesher, קשר) was the immediate gain. (iii) The connection was the essence of what was missing at the breakage. This is the essence of what was missing during the time of the breakage. Klach's historical-causal claim: the breakage's central deficit was Z"N-disconnection. (iv) The lack of connection caused the breakage. It was because of the lack of connection that the other repairs were absent, which is what led to the breakage. The causal chain: lack of connection → other repairs absent → breakage. The chapter's most consequential historical claim. (v) Once rectified, all other repairs could come. Once this was rectified, a place was prepared for all the other repairs to come about little by little. The order of repair: connection first; because of the connection, all the other repairs could come about. The connection is the foundational repair on which the rest depends.

What this paragraph does. Places the together-growth historically-causally. The reader leaves with the doctrine that the breakage's cause was Z"N-disconnection and the repair's foundational work was Z"N-connection; every other repair depends on this one.

Concepts at play: immediate_connection_z_a_nukva_after_breakage_repair, lack_of_connection_caused_breakage, z_a_nukva_grow_to_maturity_together, shevirat_hakelim, tikkun, world_of_nekudim, mochin_dekatnut, cycle_of_creation, zeir_anpin, nukva, chapter_119_z_n_grow_to_maturity_together.

Paragraph 9 — Part 2 phrase 2: the first work in pregnancy was to bring them together

Source — Hebrew (קל"ח פתחי חכמה):

להיות זו"ן הולכים ביחד תמיד, המעשה הראשון שנעשה - היה לקרבם, עד שיהיו הולכים ביחד תמיד:

Source — English (Greenbaum):

> …was that Zeir and Nukva always go together. The first work carried out – already in the Pregnancy of Zeir and Nukva – was to bring them together so that they would always continue going together. Plain English:

Two precisions. (i) The first work was to bring them together. The first work carried out — already in the Pregnancy of Z"A and Nukva — was to bring them together. The order of repair-work: connection first, in the first stage (pregnancy). (ii) The purpose: that they always continue going together. So that they would always continue going together. The connection is not a one-time event; it is the operational basis on which Z"N continue together through suckling, maturity, and the entire cycle.

What this paragraph does. Closes the chapter (and Part 2) by naming the order of the repair: connection first, in pregnancy; the connection is for the duration — Z"N continue together throughout. The reader leaves with the foundational-work picture: the unit's first stage (pregnancy, Op. 120) is primarily about bringing Z"A and Nukva together.

Concepts at play: bringing_zn_together_first_work_in_pregnancy, immediate_connection_z_a_nukva_after_breakage_repair, z_a_nukva_grow_to_maturity_together, z_a_three_stage_construction_pregnancy_suckling_maturity, pregnancy_z_a_three_sefirot_nhy_nukva_fourth_on_yesod, tikkun, zeir_anpin, nukva, chapter_119_z_n_grow_to_maturity_together.

Synthesis

The chapter's deep claim, in one sentence. Op. 119 opens the new construction-unit (Op. 119–123) by establishing that Z"A and Nukva grow to maturity together through the three stages of pregnancy (Z"A as NHY + Nukva on Yesod), suckling (Z"A's CGT revealed + Nukva on Tiferet's back), and maturity (Z"A's CHaBaD revealed + Malchut into Daat) — because the male is never complete without his female (Z"A is head, Nukva is end, every repair flows through Nukva to the lower creations) and because the lack of connection between Z"A and Nukva caused the breakage; the connection was the immediate gain of the repair, and the foundational repair on which all others depend.

The structural / historical / teleological tripod. ¶7–9 give the chapter's three-fold grounding for the together-growth. Structurally, Z"A's operational completion requires Nukva as the end (¶7). Historically, Z"N-disconnection caused the breakage; Z"N-connection is the first work of the repair (¶8–9). Teleologically, the cycle of creation (Op. 4) needs Z"N to deliver governance to the world below (Op. 115 ¶6); without the connection, no governance reaches the world. Each grounding requires the together-growth; together they make the claim operationally indispensable.

The three stages and the Mochin-states. ¶6's three stages map precisely onto the Mochin-strength states of Op. 116 ¶10. Pregnancy and suckling are katnut (no Mochin yet — only NHY in pregnancy, CGT-NHY in suckling); maturity is gadlut (CHaBaD revealed). The unit's three stages are therefore the temporal anchoring of the katnut/gadlut distinction. The ascents that follow maturity (Op. 116 ¶10) — the aliyot — are post-maturity events, not stages of the construction itself; the unit's chapters work the construction, with the ascents coming as later operational events.

The connection-doctrine and its book-arc significance. ¶8's claim — the lack of connection caused the breakage; the connection was the foundational repair — is one of Klach's central historical-causal doctrines. It places the Z"N-connection not as one repair among many, but as the foundational repair on which all others depend. The repair's order matters: connection first, then the rest. This is consistent with the World of Nekudim doctrine of Op. 50–51: in Nekudim, the seven lower Sefirot emerged separately and broke because they could not coordinate; the repair coordinates them by connecting them as Partzufim with operational coupling-relations. Op. 119 ¶8 internalises this at the Z"N-pair level: Z"N's connection is the operational basis of the post-repair Atzilut.

Op. 119's place in the larger arc. The chapter is the first of the construction-unit. With the unit's foundational claim established (together-growth + three stages + connection-as-foundational-repair), Op. 120–123 will work the specifics: pregnancy in detail (Op. 120), suckling (Op. 121), maturity (Op. 122–123, likely with the Mochin-revelation mechanism in greater detail). The unit's general principle is set in Op. 119; the operational specifics follow.

Self-review notes

Looking ahead — grounded foreshadowing

Op. 119 opens the Z"A construction unit. Z"A and Nukva grow to maturity together — the start of the breakage's repair.

  • **Op. 119's Z"A and Nukva grow together doctrine is the operational rule for the entire three-stage construction unit. Op. 120 (repair of the breakage in stages), Op. 121 (completion temporally specified — 9 months pregnancy, 24 months suckling, 13 years for full suckling, maturity from 13y+1d), Op. 122 (action of Z"A during the stages), Op. 123** (rule of Judgment as cause of immaturity). The growing-together logic runs through the entire downstream Z"A architecture.
  • **Op. 119's repair of the breakage identification** is the structural-philosophical claim that Z"A's growth is the repair. Op. 36–50 (Nekudim) introduced the breaking; Op. 51–58 (States + Sparks) introduced the asymmetric repair-architecture; Op. 59–69 (World of Repair) established the operational mechanism; Op. 119 onward enacts the repair through Z"A's developmental construction.
