Section: The Partzufim of Abba and Imma (Openings 110–114)

TL;DR

Op. 110 opens the new unit The Partzufim of Abba and Imma (Op. 110–114) and at the same time resolves the apparent contradiction announced at the close of Op. 109. The ARI's Etz Chayim gave two different endpoints for Yesod of Atik in A"A: Yesod of A"A (Shaar Arich Anpin ch. 1) and Tiferet of A"A (Shaar HaMelachim ch. 4). Klach maps each to its proper mode under the Op. 109 two-mode rule. Under hishtalshelut (the developmental chain), Yesod of Atik ends in the chest (Tiferet) of A"A, and from there the Kindnesses (חסדים, chassadim) and Strengths (גבורות, gevurot) of Atik go forth and are revealed. Under hitlabshut (the clothing), Yesod of Atik ends in Yesod of A"A — the standard Lurianic clothing order. Both passages of the ARI are therefore true, each describing the endpoint under a different mode. Op. 110 then uses the chain endpoint to give the root of Abba and Imma: Chochmah and Binah of Atzilut, when they come to be Partzufim, receive radiation from the Kindnesses and Strengths of Atik in A"A's chest; their position on the Tree is facing the chest of A"A; Abba and Imma clothe A"A's arms down to the navel; and through the power of these Kindnesses and Strengths Abba and Imma divide into four PartzufimAbba and Imma themselves, and the first and second Israel Sabba and Tevunah (the full division is worked in Op. 128). The chapter closes with a precise structural-classification note: the chain endpoint is properly so called because it causes the division of Chochmah and Binah into four Partzufim — that is, the chain endpoint is the one that shapes the structure of the lower Partzufim. The chapter is short, but it does two jobs at once: it resolves a real puzzle in the standard source and it opens the unit by giving the root its later chapters work outward from.

Chapter map

This is the opening chapter of the unit The Partzufim of Abba and Imma (Op. 110–114). The previous unit (The Repairs of Arich Anpin, Op. 101–109) worked A"A intensively — its Head (Op. 101–104), its Beard (Op. 105–107), its Beard's cosmic-ethical operation (Op. 108), and the closing general rule of two modes of Partzuf-interrelation (Op. 109). With A"A's discussion behind us, Klach now turns to Abba and Imma — and follows its standard pattern: start with the root, then build outward. The chapter does both of two jobs at once. (i) It resolves the Op. 109 puzzle about Yesod of Atik's endpoint in A"A. (ii) It opens the new unit by giving the root of Abba and Imma. The two jobs are not separate — the chain endpoint is the root, and the resolution names exactly which mode is the productive one for the unit's subsequent work.

What this chapter is doing — both retrospective and prospective

The chapter's deep claim, in three lines. (i) Yesod of Atik has two endpoints in A"A: Tiferet of A"A under hishtalshelut and Yesod of A"A under hitlabshut. (ii) The chain endpoint — Tiferet of A"A — is the productive one: from there the Kindnesses and Strengths of Atik emerge; from there Abba and Imma are built by receiving radiation; from there the four-fold division of Chochmah and Binah into Abba/Imma + Israel Sabba/Tevunah is powered. (iii) The chain endpoint is properly so called because it shapes the structure of the lower Partzufim — and structure-shaping is the chain mode's defining work.

Why this resolution now, at the unit's opening? The unit The Partzufim of Abba and Imma will work Abba and Imma as Partzufim — their construction, their division, their relationship to Z"A below them. To do that work, the unit needs the rootwhere Abba and Imma come from. The root is the Kindnesses and Strengths of Atik that emerge in A"A's chest. But that locus is exactly the chain endpoint of Yesod of Atik. So the unit cannot start without first resolving the apparent contradiction announced in Op. 109 — because the resolution is what tells us which endpoint is the root. Op. 110 is therefore not first the puzzle, then the root in two separate moves. It is one move: the chain endpoint, identified as the chest of A"A, is itself the root of Abba and Imma. The puzzle's resolution and the unit's foundation are the same content seen from two angles.

The chain endpoint (¶4–6) — the productive face. The chain mode terminates Yesod of Atik in Tiferet of A"A — A"A's chest. ¶4 anchors this in the perakim doctrine (the internal joints — פרקים, perakim — of each Sefirah; in the case of Yesod, Yesod-proper and Ateret HaYesod — the Corona). The phrase this is simple (זה פשוט, zeh pashut) tells the reader that the precise measurements are not the point — the known doctrine of perakim is what places the endpoint in the chest. ¶5 names what comes out of that endpoint: the Kindnesses (chassadim) and Strengths (gevurot) go forth and are revealed. The mechanism is a general principle Klach states here for all Partzufim: Daat spreads from the head into the body of every Partzuf, is wholly included in its Yesod, and shines outward. The reason for this spread-and-shine is theological: Daat is the essence of the governmental order (the cross-reference to Op. 124 is explicit) — and the governmental order must spread out of the vessel and openly. The chassadim and gevurot in A"A's chest are therefore Daat-of-Atik's outward radiation. ¶6 then names what receives the radiation: Chochmah and Binah of Atzilut, as Partzufim. They receive radiation from the Kindnesses and Strengths; their place on the Tree is facing those revealed Kindnesses and Strengths; they thereby clothe A"A's arms down to the navel; and through the power of the Kindnesses and Strengths they divide into four PartzufimAbba/Imma and the first/second Israel Sabba and Tevunah (the full division is worked in Op. 128). The chapter's parenthetical at the close of ¶6 is the classifier: this is included under the chain because it causes the division of Chochmah and Binah into four Partzufim — that is, it involves the structure of the Partzufim. The chain endpoint's defining work is structure-shaping; that is why the chest endpoint is the chain endpoint and not the clothing one.

The clothing endpoint (¶7) — the parallel face. Mode 2 terminates Yesod of Atik in Yesod of A"A — the standard Lurianic clothing order. ¶7 is brief because the clothing endpoint is the unproductive face for this chapter's work: the chapter's job is to give the root of Abba and Imma, and the root is at the chain endpoint. The clothing endpoint is named only to confirm that the puzzle is resolved — the second ARI passage names the clothing endpoint, the first ARI passage names the chain endpoint; both are true, each in its proper mode; and the apparent contradiction is not a contradiction in the source, only in our reading. The Op. 109 ¶7 the order of clothing is different claim is what allows this resolution. ¶7 closes by pointing back to Op. 109 explicitly: the Partzufim clothe one another in a different order, as explained in the previous Opening.

The radiation-mechanism in detail. The mechanism deserves a closer look, because it is the operational pattern for the rest of the unit. The sequence is precise. (a) Daat-of-Atik — the upper Partzuf's third Mental Power — spreads from Atik's head into Atik's body. (b) Daat-of-Atik gathers in Atik's Yesod. ¶5's exact phrase is that Daat is wholly included (niklal, נכלל) in the Yesod — i.e. Yesod is where Daat's content is gathered before being shone outward. (c) From Yesod-of-Atik, the Kindnesses and Strengths radiate outward into A"A's chest. The chest of A"A is where the radiation emerges; this is the visible signature of the chain endpoint in A"A. (d) Chochmah and Binah of Atzilut, as they come to be Partzufim, position themselves facing the radiation. They receive the Kindnesses and Strengths; the radiation is what makes them Partzufim. (e) Their position on the Tree, clothing A"A's arms down to the navel, follows from the radiation's locus. They are placed against the chest because they receive what radiates from the chest. (f) Through the power of the radiation, they divide into four Partzufim. The division is not arbitrary; it is powered by the chassadim/gevurot, and the four-fold structure (Abba, Imma, Israel Sabba, Tevunah) is the form that division takes (worked in Op. 128). The whole sequence is one continuous operation, from Atik's Daat through Yesod, into A"A's chest, into Chochmah and Binah, into their division. Op. 110 sketches the whole; the unit's later chapters work the parts.

Op. 110 as the unit's combined-resolution-and-opener. Klach often opens a unit with a general rule; sometimes it opens with a root identification; here it opens with both at once — and also resolves a specific contradiction in the standard source. The compactness is characteristic. The retrospective face (the puzzle) and the prospective face (the root) share the same locus: Tiferet of A"A. The unit's later chapters (Op. 111–114) will work outward from this root, building the Partzufim of Abba and Imma in their detail.

The diagrams

Two diagrams capture the chapter visually. The first shows the resolution of the apparent contradiction — the two ARI loci, each mapped to its proper mode-endpoint, with the Op. 109 rule as the resolving principle. The second shows the radiation-and-formation sequence — Atik's Daat → Atik's Yesod → A"A's chest → chassadim/gevurot → Chochmah/Binah-as-Partzufim → four-fold division. Both diagrams are parallel-tracks-with-confluence: the first because two ARI passages converge on one underlying truth via the two-mode rule; the second because two strands (chassadim and gevurot) converge in A"A's chest and produce the Partzuf-formation of Chochmah and Binah.

Diagram 1 — The resolution of the Yesod-of-Atik puzzle

Read top to bottom. The two ARI loci sit at the top, each with its stated endpoint. The Op. 109 two-mode rule sits in the middle, the resolving principle. The bottom shows the mapping: Shaar Arich Anpin ch. 1 (Yesod) → clothing-mode endpoint; Shaar HaMelachim ch. 4 (Tiferet) → chain-mode endpoint. Both ARI passages are true; each names the endpoint under a different mode.

Paragraph 1 — Italic gloss / chapter title

Source — Hebrew (קל"ח פתחי חכמה):

הארת יסוד עתיק - שורש או"א:

Source — English (Greenbaum):

> In the chain of development, Yesod of Atik ends in the chest (Tiferet) of Arich Anpin; as clothed, it ends in Yesod of Arich. Plain English:

The chapter title compresses the chapter's whole content into one sentence. Two endpoints of Yesod of Atik in A"A are named, each tagged with its mode. Under the chain of development (hishtalshelut), Yesod of Atik ends in the chest — i.e. Tiferet — of A"A. Under clothing (hitlabshut), the same Yesod of Atik ends in the Yesod of A"A. The Hebrew chapter heading (hearat Yesod Atik — shoresh Abba ve-Imma, the radiation of Yesod of Atik — the root of Abba and Imma) compresses the chapter's role into the same phrase: the radiation (the chain endpoint's outward emergence in the chest) is the root of Abba and Imma. The chapter therefore announces, in its very title, that the two-endpoint structure is the structure that grounds the unit's subsequent work on Abba and Imma.

What this paragraph does. Italic gloss. Names the chapter's two-endpoint claim and signals (through the Hebrew chapter heading) that the chain endpoint is the root the unit's later chapters work outward from. The first thing the reader sees, before the technical specification.

Paragraph 2 — The proposition

Source — English (Greenbaum):

> According to the way the chain of development is arranged, Yesod of Atik ends in the chest of Arich Anpin and it is from there that its Kindnesses and Strengths go forth and are revealed. Afterwards it is from there that Abba and Imma, Israel Sabba and Tevunah, are built. However, in the order whereby one clothes another, Yesod of Atik ends in Yesod of Arich Anpin. Plain English:

The proposition has the shape of two parallel claims joined by a contrastive marker. (i) Mode 1 — the chain endpoint, with its productive consequences. Three pieces packed in tight sequence. (a) Yesod of Atik ends in the chest of A"A (i.e. Tiferet). (b) From the chest, the Kindnesses (chassadim) and Strengths (gevurot) of Atik go forth and are revealed. (c) From the same chest, Abba and Imma, Israel Sabba and Tevunah are built. (ii) Mode 2 — the clothing endpoint, named without consequences. In the order whereby one Partzuf clothes another, Yesod of Atik ends in Yesod of A"A. The contrastive however (Hebrew aval, אבל) does the same work as in Op. 109's proposition: it tells the reader that the two modes are distinct arrangements, not redundant descriptions of the same thing. The proposition's asymmetry is worth pausing on. The chain endpoint comes with three clauses (the endpoint, the radiation, the formation of the lower Partzufim); the clothing endpoint comes with one clause (the endpoint alone). The asymmetry is intentional: the chapter's productive face is the chain mode; the clothing mode is named only to confirm that the puzzle is resolved — not to do new work.

What this paragraph does. States the chapter's whole proposition: two endpoints, each in its proper mode, with the chain endpoint productive and the clothing endpoint named only to complete the resolution. Each subsequent paragraph unfolds one piece. ¶3 names the position in the book. ¶4 unfolds the chain endpoint with its perakim anchor. ¶5 names the radiation and gives the Daat-mechanism. ¶6 names the formation of Abba and Imma with the four-Partzuf division and the structural-shaping classifier. ¶7 closes with the clothing endpoint and the non-contradiction notice.

Paragraph 3 — Framing: starting with the root

Source — Hebrew (קל"ח פתחי חכמה):

אחר שנתבאר א"א ועניניו, נבוא לבאר או"א, ובתחילה נבאר שרשם:

Source — English (Greenbaum):

> Following our discussion of the various aspects of Arich Anpin, we will now examine the Partzufim of Abba and Imma starting with their root. Plain English:

Two pieces. (i) The chapter's position in the book. Following our discussion of the various aspects of Arich Anpin — i.e. the unit The Repairs of Arich Anpin (Op. 101–109) — we will now examine the Partzufim of Abba and Imma. The unit boundary is named explicitly: A"A's discussion is behind us; Abba and Imma's discussion begins here. (ii) The chapter's method. Starting with their root. Klach's standard pattern when opening a unit on a Partzuf-pair is to start with the root — the locus from which that pair originates. The root, the rest of the chapter will show, is at the chain endpoint of Yesod of Atik (i.e. A"A's chest), where the chassadim and gevurot of Atik emerge. The framing therefore announces: the rest of the unit will work outward from a root we are about to identify.

What this paragraph does. Frames the chapter as unit-opener via root-identification. Names the unit boundary (A"A behind, Abba/Imma ahead) and the method (root-first). Short and structural. The italic-gloss form (the Hebrew is plain prose; the English is italicized) marks this as bracketed motivational frame — the technical content begins in ¶4.

Paragraph 4 — The chain endpoint, with the perakim anchor

Source — Hebrew (קל"ח פתחי חכמה):

לפי סדר ההשתלשלות - יסוד דעתיק כלה בחזה דא"א, זה פשוט, לפי השיעורים של הפרקים כידוע:

Source — English (Greenbaum):

> According to the way the chain of development is arranged, Yesod of Atik ends in the chest (Tiferet) of Arich Anpin… Each Sefirah has a particular number of sections or "joints" (פרקים, perakim), all with their own measure. In the case of Yesod, the sections are Yesod and Ateret HaYesod – the Corona. Plain English:

Two precisions, anchoring the chain endpoint in the known perakim doctrine. (i) The chain endpoint, restated. Yesod of Atik ends in the chest (i.e. Tiferet) of A"A. The proposition's first clause is restated and qualified — chest is Tiferet, the central Sefirah of A"A's body, sitting at the navel level (the point where the arms terminate). (ii) The perakim anchor. The reason this endpoint is Tiferet — and not, say, the higher Chesed/Gevurah or the lower Yesod — comes from the known doctrine of perakim (פרקים, the internal joints of a Sefirah). Each Sefirah has a particular number of perakim, and each peraq has its own measure. In the case of Yesod, there are two perakim: Yesod-proper (the upper portion) and Ateret HaYesod (the Corona, atarah; the crown of Yesod, the lower portion). The measures of these perakim, when calculated against A"A's anatomy, are what place the endpoint of Yesod of Atik in A"A's chest (Tiferet) under the chain mode. The phrase zeh pashut (זה פשוט, this is simple) tells the reader that the precise calculation is known doctrine — Klach is invoking a previously-established framework, not constructing one. The reader who wants the precise calculation can find it in the standard Lurianic sources; Klach's job here is to use the result, not to redo the work.

What this paragraph does. Places the chain endpoint precisely (Tiferet of A"A) and anchors the placement in the known perakim doctrine. The paragraph is short — Klach treats the placement as established and is invoking the framework rather than building it. The reader leaves the paragraph knowing where the chain endpoint is and why (perakim measures), and that the precise calculation is in the standard sources.

Paragraph 5 — The Kindnesses and Strengths emerge: the Daat-mechanism

Source — English (Greenbaum):

> **…and it is from there that its Kindnesses (חסדים, chassadim) and Strengths (גבורות, gevurot) go forth and are revealed. For in all the Partzufim, Daat spreads from the head into the body of the Partzuf and is wholly included in its Yesod and shines outwards. For Daat is the essence of the governmental order and this is how it must spread – going out of the vessel and openly spreading. This will be discussed later in its appropriate place (see Opening 124). Plain English:**

Three precisions, carrying the chapter's most consequential general principle. (i) The visible event in A"A's chest. From the chest of A"A — the chain endpoint of Yesod of Atik — the Kindnesses (chassadim) and Strengths (gevurot) of Atik go forth and are revealed. The chain endpoint is therefore not just a terminus; it is a radiation locus. The content of the radiation is the chassadim and gevurot — the five Kindnesses and five Strengths of Atik (the long-established Lurianic five-and-five pair). The event is the emergence of these into visibility in A"A's chest. (ii) The general Daat-mechanism. In all the Partzufim, Daat spreads from the head into the body of the Partzuf and is wholly included in its Yesod and shines outwards. The principle is general — applies to every Partzuf — and gives the operational sequence: head → body → Yesod → outward shining. The chassadim and gevurot in A"A's chest are Atik's Daat-radiating-outward. The path is precise: Atik's Daat (the third Mental Power, named in Op. 101) spreads from Atik's head into Atik's body, gathers in Atik's Yesod (where it is wholly included), and from Atik's Yesod shines outward into the next-down Partzuf — i.e. into A"A's chest. (iii) The theological reason. Daat is the essence of the governmental order, and this is how it must spread — going out of the vessel and openly. The Daat-mechanism is not arbitrary; it follows from what Daat is — the essence (ikar, עיקר) of the governmental order — and from what governance must do — extend from inside outward, vessel to outward radiation. The cross-reference is to Op. 124, which works the Daat-spreading doctrine in detail (its title: Daat expands through the whole of Z"A, while Chochmah and Binah do not). Atik's Daat spreading into A"A via the chest is the same general principle.

What this paragraph does. Names the visible event (chassadim/gevurot emerge in A"A's chest), gives the general Daat-mechanism that produces the event, and supplies the theological reason the mechanism is what it is. The paragraph is the chapter's most general claim — applies to every Partzuf — and is the operational engine for the chapter's whole sequence: without the Daat-mechanism, there would be no radiation; without the radiation, no root for Abba and Imma; without the root, no unit. The cross-reference to Op. 124 tells the reader where the doctrine is fully worked.

Paragraph 6 — Abba and Imma built by receiving the radiation; the structural-shaping classifier

Source — English (Greenbaum):

> Afterwards it is from there that Abba and Imma, Israel Sabba and Tevunah, are built. When Chochmah and Binah of Atzilut become Partzufim, they receive a radiation from these Kindnesses and Strengths – their place on the Tree of the Partzufim is facing the Kindnesses and Strengths of Atik, which are revealed when they emerge from the Yesod of Atik and spread in the chest of Arich Anpin. Against the chest are Abba and Imma, which clothe the arms of Arich Anpin down to the navel. It is through the power of the Kindnesses and Strengths of Atik that Abba and Imma divide into four Partzufim – the first and second Israel Sabba and Tevunah, as will be discussed in its appropriate place (see Opening 128). (The ending of Yesod of Atik in the chest of Arich Anpin is included in the category of the developmental chain because it causes the division of Chochmah and Binah into four Partzufim, which involves the structure of the Partzufim.) Plain English:

Five precisions, the chapter's most operationally dense paragraph. (i) The general claim — Abba and Imma are built from there. Afterwards it is from there — i.e. from A"A's chest, where the chassadim/gevurot are revealed — that Abba and Imma, Israel Sabba and Tevunah are built. The general placement: A"A's chest is the building-site for the whole Abba/Imma family. (ii) The Sefirah-becomes-Partzuf mechanism. When Chochmah and Binah of Atzilut become Partzufim, they receive a radiation from these Kindnesses and Strengths. Chochmah and Binah were named in Op. 5–6 as Sefirot; the Mochin-form (Chochmah-Binah-Daat as the three Mental Powers) was named in Op. 101 ¶8. Op. 110 ¶6 now gives the Partzuf-form: when Chochmah and Binah come to be Partzufim, they are built up by receiving radiation from the chassadim and gevurot of Atik in A"A's chest. The radiation is what Partzuf-ifies them — what expands the Sefirot into full Partzuf-anatomy. (iii) The position-on-the-Tree. Their place on the Tree of the Partzufim is facing the Kindnesses and Strengths of Atik, which are revealed when they emerge from the Yesod of Atik and spread in the chest of A"A. Position follows function: Chochmah and Binah, as Partzufim, face the chest of A"A because they receive from the chest. The Tree (ilan, אילן) is the Lurianic-cosmological framework — Atzilut's whole-Partzuf arrangement; Chochmah and Binah's place on the Tree is facing A"A's chest. (iv) The clothing-of-arms. Against the chest are Abba and Imma, which clothe the arms of A"A down to the navel. Anatomically: A"A's arms are Chesed (right arm) and Gevurah (left arm); they extend down to the navel (the navel sits at Tiferet, the chest-level). Abba (Chochmah-as-Partzuf) clothes the right arm (Chesed of A"A); Imma (Binah-as-Partzuf) clothes the left arm (Gevurah of A"A). The clothing is down to the navel because that is where Tiferet (chest) sits — i.e. the same locus as the chain endpoint. (v) The four-fold division and the structural-shaping classifier. Through the power of the Kindnesses and Strengths of Atik, Abba and Imma divide into four Partzufim — first and second Israel Sabba and Tevunah, as will be discussed in its appropriate place (see Opening 128). The chassadim/gevurot do not just make Abba and Imma; their power causes Abba and Imma to divide into a four-fold structure. Abba and Imma are the first pair; first Israel Sabba and first Tevunah (the lower halves of Abba and Imma respectively) are the second pair; second Israel Sabba and second Tevunah are the third sub-pair (the further division of the lower halves). Op. 128 will work this in full. The closing parenthetical is the chapter's most precise structural claim: the chest endpoint is included in the chain category because it causes the division of Chochmah and Binah into four Partzufim — that is, it involves the structure of the Partzufim. Structure-shaping is the criterion that places an endpoint in the chain mode. The chain mode is not just one of two arrangements; it is the mode whose defining work is to shape the lower's structure. Klach is here giving the operational definition of what makes the chain endpoint the chain endpoint — and the answer is because that endpoint shapes the structure of what is built from it.

What this paragraph does. Carries the chapter's productive face in full. The paragraph specifies the general claim (Abba and Imma are built from the chest), the Sefirah-becomes-Partzuf mechanism (Chochmah and Binah receive radiation), the position-on-the-Tree (facing A"A's chest), the clothing-of-arms (Abba clothes right, Imma clothes left, down to navel), the four-fold division (powered by chassadim/gevurot), and the classifier (the chest endpoint is the chain endpoint because it shapes the structure of the lower Partzufim). The reader leaves the paragraph with the chapter's whole root-doctrine in hand.

Paragraph 7 — The clothing endpoint and the resolution closer

Source — English (Greenbaum):

> However, in the order whereby one clothes another, Yesod of Atik ends in Yesod of Arich Anpin. What we have said about Yesod of Atik ending in Arich in terms of the developmental chain does not contradict our saying that, as Yesod of Atik is clothed in Arich Anpin it ends in Yesod of Arich, because the Partzufim clothe one another in a different order, as explained in the previous Opening. Plain English:

Two precisions, closing the chapter and the resolution. (i) The clothing endpoint. In the order whereby one Partzuf clothes another, Yesod of Atik ends in Yesod of A"A. This is the standard Lurianic clothing-order — Atik's Yesod terminating at A"A's parallel-position Yesod (Sefirah-of-the-same-name endpoint). The clothing endpoint is short in the source — only the locus is named, with no productive consequences attached. The contrast with ¶6 is intentional: the chain endpoint produces (radiation, formation, division); the clothing endpoint is (just a locus, named to complete the resolution). (ii) The non-contradiction notice. What we have said about Yesod of Atik ending in A"A in terms of the developmental chain does not contradict our saying that, as Yesod of Atik is clothed in A"A it ends in Yesod of Arich, because the Partzufim clothe one another in a different order, as explained in the previous Opening. The cross-reference to Op. 109 is explicit. The order of clothing is different (Op. 109 ¶7) — and that difference is exactly what makes the two ARI passages non-contradictory. Etz Chayim, Shaar Arich Anpin ch. 1 (which says Yesod of A"A) names the clothing endpoint; Etz Chayim, Shaar HaMelachim ch. 4 (which says Tiferet of A"A) names the chain endpoint. Both are true; each describes the endpoint in its proper mode; the apparent contradiction is only apparent.

What this paragraph does. Closes the chapter. Names the clothing endpoint (Yesod of A"A) and gives the non-contradiction notice that completes the Op. 109 puzzle's resolution. The reader leaves the chapter with: both ARI passages are true; each describes the endpoint under a different mode; the chain endpoint (chest) is the productive one; the clothing endpoint (Yesod) confirms the resolution; the unit on Abba and Imma can now begin in earnest at Op. 111.

Synthesis

The chapter's deep claim, in one sentence. Yesod of Atik has two endpoints in A"A — Tiferet of A"A under hishtalshelut (the chain mode) and Yesod of A"A under hitlabshut (the clothing mode); the chain endpoint is the productive one, where Atik's chassadim and gevurot emerge and radiate, and where Chochmah and Binah of Atzilut, receiving the radiation, are built up into Abba and Imma (with their further four-fold division into Israel Sabba and Tevunah, worked in Op. 128); the chain endpoint is properly so called because structure-shaping is the chain mode's defining work.

Op. 110 as a combined retrospective-and-prospective chapter. Klach normally separates resolving a puzzle and opening a unit into two distinct moves. Op. 110 does both at once. The reason is structural: the unit's root (Atik's chassadim/gevurot in A"A's chest) is exactly the chain endpoint of Yesod of Atik — i.e. the same locus the puzzle's resolution identifies. Resolving the puzzle therefore is identifying the root; the two faces are the same content. This combined-move shape is one of Klach's signature compactness moves: when two pedagogical jobs share a locus, do them in one chapter and let the structural-classification note (¶6's parenthetical) make the link explicit.

The two-mode rule's first concrete application. Op. 109 stated the two-mode rule abstractly: every Partzuf-pair has both a chain-mode and a clothing-mode interrelation; the orders are different; aspects of the lower must be traced separately to each mode. Op. 110 is the rule's first application. The Atik–A"A Partzuf-pair is worked under both modes: the chain-mode locates Yesod of Atik's endpoint in Tiferet of A"A (with productive consequences); the clothing-mode locates the same Yesod's endpoint in Yesod of A"A. The aspects-trace-separately principle of Op. 109 ¶6 is operative here: the radiation, the chassadim/gevurot emergence, the formation of Abba and Imma, the four-Partzuf division — all of these aspects trace to the chain endpoint; the standard Lurianic clothing-order — Atik clothed in A"A, with parallel-position termini — traces to the clothing endpoint. The chapter is therefore both the paradigm the unit's later chapters will follow and the test the Op. 109 rule passes.

The structural-shaping criterion as the chain mode's defining work. ¶6's closing parenthetical is the chapter's most precise structural claim: the chest endpoint is included in the chain category because it causes the division of Chochmah and Binah into four Partzufim — that is, it involves the structure of the Partzufim. This criterion operationally defines the chain mode: the chain mode is the mode whose endpoint shapes the structure of the lower Partzufim. The clothing mode, by contrast, adds extra powers (Op. 109 ¶5) — but does not shape the structure. The two modes therefore have operationally distinct roles: chain constructs, clothing augments. Op. 110's classifier is the rule's operational sharpening: the chain endpoint is not arbitrarily so named; it is the chain endpoint because its work is structure-shaping.

The Daat-mechanism as the chapter's general principle. ¶5's general principle — Daat spreads from head to body, is wholly included in Yesod, shines outward; for Daat is the essence of the governmental order — is not specific to Atik–A"A. It is a general law applying to every Partzuf. Atik's Daat radiating into A"A is one instance; A"A's Daat radiating into Abba/Imma is another (the unit's later chapters will work this); Abba/Imma's Daat radiating into Z"A is another (Op. 124 will work this); and so on down. The Daat-mechanism is therefore the operational engine for every Partzuf-pair's chain-mode interrelation. Op. 110 ¶5 names the principle on the occasion of Atik–A"A — but the principle's scope is the whole Partzuf-system. This is the same pattern as Op. 109: state a general rule on a specific occasion; the rule's scope is broader than the occasion.

Sefirah-becomes-Partzuf via radiation as a recurring pattern. The mechanism in ¶6 — Chochmah and Binah of Atzilut, when they become Partzufim, receive radiation from these Kindnesses and Strengths — is a general mechanism. Klach has been building up to this since Op. 5–6 (the Sefirot named) and Op. 70 (the Partzuf-form anatomy named). Op. 110 ¶6 closes the transition: the Sefirot become Partzufim by receiving radiation from the upper Partzuf's outward Daat. The same mechanism will apply to Z"A's becoming a Partzuf (he becomes a Partzuf by receiving radiation from Abba/Imma's outward Daat — see Op. 124 onward); and to Nukva's becoming a Partzuf (she becomes a Partzuf by receiving radiation from Z"A's outward Daat — see the late chapters). The up-then-down-then-up arc — Sefirot → become Partzufim by receiving from above → form a new layer of the Tree → radiate to the Sefirot below them — is the operational arc of the whole Atzilut-construction.

The four-fold division as the unit's prospective opening. ¶6's Abba and Imma divide into four Partzufim — first and second Israel Sabba and Tevunah announces a structural feature the unit will work. The four-fold division produces six named Partzufim (Abba, Imma, first Israel Sabba, second Israel Sabba, first Tevunah, second Tevunah) — but they are still four pairings (Abba/Imma is one pair; first Sabba/first Tevunah another; etc.) or, in another count, four Partzufim (Abba, Imma, Israel Sabba — the lower of Abba — and Tevunah — the lower of Imma — each appearing in two states). The exact arithmetic and the operational role of each are deferred to Op. 128. Op. 110's job is to announce the division and tag its power to the chassadim/gevurot of Atik; Op. 128 will work what the division does, why it is needed, and how it operates.

The clothing endpoint's brevity and its meaning. The asymmetry between ¶6 and ¶7 — five precisions vs two — is meaningful. The chain endpoint produces (radiation, formation, division); it requires a long paragraph. The clothing endpoint is (just a locus); a short paragraph is enough. The asymmetry mirrors Op. 109's structural-classification claim: the chain mode shapes the structure; the clothing mode adds extra powers. The chain mode's productive role is constitutive of the lower Partzuf's existence; the clothing mode's role is augmentative of an already-existing Partzuf. ¶6 carries the chain mode's constitutive work; ¶7 names the clothing locus and points back to the rule that allows both endpoints to be true together.

Op. 110 and the Op. 96–100 unit. The unit on the link between Atzilut and Adam Kadmon (Op. 96–100) worked Atik's clothing of A"A and the operational mechanism of the link. Op. 110 builds on that work by giving the operational consequence of the link in the next-down Partzuf-pair: because Atik clothes A"A in the way Op. 96–100 specified, Atik's Daat-radiation through A"A's chest is what makes Abba and Imma possible. The arc Op. 96–100 → Op. 101–109 → Op. 110 is therefore cumulative: Op. 96–100 placed the link; Op. 101–109 worked A"A's interior anatomy; Op. 110 works the outward radiation from A"A's interior into the next-down layer. Each unit builds on the prior unit's structural work and extends it outward to the next layer.

Op. 110 and the rest of the unit. With the root in place (¶6), the unit's remaining chapters work Abba and Imma outward from the radiation in A"A's chest. Note: I am not claiming what Op. 111–114 will specifically cover — that's the next chapters' work to determine — only that Op. 110 sets the unit's foundation. The four-fold division is left for Op. 128 (the explicit forward-reference in ¶6), since it requires Z"A's anatomy to be in place first. Op. 110 is therefore the unit's foundation — the chapter the unit's later chapters all invoke when they speak of Abba and Imma's root in Atik's chassadim/gevurot in A"A's chest.

The Will's operational layer-structure. The whole sequence — Atik's Daat → Atik's Yesod → A"A's chest → chassadim/gevurot → Chochmah/Binah-as-Partzufim → four-fold division — is one operational layer of His Will's revelation through the Partzufim. Op. 1 ¶17 placed the structure as that which manifests and reveals the underlying oneness. Op. 110's sequence is one of those revealing-structures — specifically, the one that makes Abba and Imma exist as Partzufim and through which Chochmah and Binah become operational in the Atzilutic system. The teleology (Op. 109 ¶7) — all the different aspects function as necessary to bring the creations to perfection — applies here: the radiation, the formation, the division all function as necessary to bring the Atzilutic structure to its full form, and through it, the lower Worlds to their perfection.

Op. 110 in the larger book-arc. The book has been working up and down: Op. 1–6 placed the foundations; Op. 7–25 placed the basic operations; Op. 26–60 worked the Worlds and the breaking; Op. 61–95 worked the structural anatomy of Partzufim and their general laws; Op. 96–100 placed the link between Atzilut and Adam Kadmon; Op. 101–109 worked A"A in detail. Op. 110 begins the next downward step — Abba and Imma — and Op. 110–138 will descend through Abba and Imma → Z"A → Nukva → Coupling, ultimately reaching the coupling chapters (Op. 130–138) that form the book's apex. Op. 110 is the first chapter of the second half of this descent, and its role is to plant the next-down Partzuf-pair (Abba/Imma) by giving its root in the prior layer (Atik's chassadim/gevurot in A"A's chest).

The puzzle's pedagogical role. Klach does not simply state the two-mode rule abstractly and move on. It uses the rule on a specific puzzle (Op. 109 ¶3 named the puzzle; Op. 110 ¶7 closes the resolution). The pedagogical role is concrete: the reader sees the rule do work on a real-world (i.e. real-Lurianic-source) problem. The two ARI passages — Etz Chayim, Shaar Arich Anpin ch. 1 (Yesod) and Etz Chayim, Shaar HaMelachim ch. 4 (Tiferet) — were both authoritative, and both describe the same relationship (Atik–A"A). A reader of the ARI without the Op. 109 rule would be left with an unresolved contradiction in the standard source. Klach's resolution preserves both authoritative passages and adds the rule that lets them coexist. This is one of Klach's signature pedagogical moves: take a real puzzle in the standard source; state the rule that resolves it; show the resolution at work. The reader is given not just the rule but the demonstration that the rule earns its place.

Self-review notes

Looking ahead — grounded foreshadowing

Op. 110 opens the Partzufim of Abba and Imma unit by applying Op. 109's two-modes rule directly. Yesod of Atik ends in Tiferet of A"A (chain); as clothed, ends in Yesod of A"A. Same fact, two modes. Op. 110 places the external root of Abba and Imma. Forecasts Op. 124, 128.

  • **Op. 110's Atik-A"A pair as paradigm doctrine is operationally completed across Op. 111–114 (Abba and Imma's structure and operational distinction) and beyond. Op. 124 (Daat as the offspring of A&I's engrafting via C&B), Op. 128** (regular oscillation between First and Second Maturity — Shabbat). The paradigm Op. 110 establishes runs through every later Partzuf-pair operational claim.
